"Quality of life is the sum total of the fairness of our tax structure; the caliber of our homes; the cleanliness of our air and water; and the provision of affirmative assistance to those who cannot assist themselves. True quality is absent if we allow social suffering to abide in an otherwise pristine environment." - Tom McCall

You can be a champion for Oregon's great communities

Tis the season for giving. Give to people you love; give to causes you love.

This year, join 1000 Friends of Oregon to celebrate the qualities that make great communities:

  • Connection to people - friends, family, colleagues and your wider community
  • Abundant, diverse, and affordable homes for everyone
  • Parks and open spaces
  • A multitude of transportation modes
  • Access to work and educational opportunities
  • A feeling of 'home'

Did you know...

Last year through our work with Anti-displacement PDX, 1000 Friends helped convene 40 organizations to focus on systemic housing issues? Our policy expertise led to the adoption of 11 anti-displacement goals and principles into Portland's 20 year comprehensive plan!

Why is that important?

Portlanders are increasingly experiencing displacement that pushes them further to the edges of the community. It is imperative that we make Portland, as well as other cities and towns across the state, affordable for every member of the community. This keeps people connected to one another, and the great assets our communities have to offer. This also means less sprawl on farmland, less car traffic and congestion, and a better quality of life for everyone.

What's next?

Portland for Everyone, a program of 1000 Friends, is a coalition of concerned citizens working to build on our anti-displacement successes by advocating for abundant, diverse, and affordable housing throughout the city.  Already P4E has connected with nearly 1,400 Portlanders, and had policy recommendations adopted in city proposals. It's time to update our outdated zoning codes, one housing policy solution that 1000 Friends is uniquely able to address.

Join us this year through Give!Guide to ensure that we have great communities across Oregon!

“True livability requires abundant, affordable and diverse housing, with great parks and accessible transit. It shouldn’t take a big paycheck to live in a vibrant, walkable neighborhood. 1000 Friends of Oregon makes our communities better for everyone.” —Eli Spevak, Orange Splot LLC

You will receive benefits.

Our friends at Willamette Week also give you fabulous rewards for giving. Check those out here

You are the difference.

People like you make our work here in Oregon possible, and they always have. Land use underlies the economic, environmental, and social infrastructure of Oregon, whether built or natural. You are here because you understand what is at stake. Today, we must commit to Oregon's future -- to our children who will live here tomorrow, and to the people who will call this place home
