"Quality of life is the sum total of the fairness of our tax structure; the caliber of our homes; the cleanliness of our air and water; and the provision of affirmative assistance to those who cannot assist themselves. True quality is absent if we allow social suffering to abide in an otherwise pristine environment." - Tom McCall
We love our city. We want a Portland where all are welcome and everyone's interests matter, regardless of background, income, or age - whether renter or homeowner, lifelong resident or new arrival. The greatest asset of our city is its people, and our city is at its best when it facilitates connections among those people: cultural, economic, and social. The policies we advocate for are based on our beliefs for how Portland can achieve these goals.
We believe in abundant, diverse, and affordable housing for Portland. To achieve this we advocate for:
- More permanently affordable housing in all parts of the city, including connected neighborhoods with access to transit and other services.
- Smaller housing options in all neighborhoods to help prevent the displacement of elders and support residents who want to age in community.
- Diverse housing types like accessory dwelling unites, small house 'pocket neighborhoods,' duplex to four-plex single-family connected units, and other strategies for affordable and market-rate infill housing in all of Portland.
- The efforts of other groups to protect renters, stabilize homeowners at risk of losing their homes, and provide homeownership opportunities for lower income residents.
