At our final gathering, we will review what we've covered this year, hear from our Executive Director about our organization's strategic priorities, discuss opportunities to stay involved with 1000 Friends and land use advocacy, and enjoy some Oregon wine, beer and snacks.

The Transportation - Land Use Connection

The connection between transportation and land use planning is integral to creating vibrant communities. Join our advisors and transportation planning experts Lynn Peterson, Lidwien Rahman and Meeky Blizzard to consider the history and challenges for transportation planning and funding in Oregon. We'll discuss Oregon's unique approach to transportation planning, funding challenges, and the specific example of Tigard as a part of the SW Corridor land use and transportation planning effort.

Urban Growth Boundary Tour and Discussion

When: Friday, August 17th

Where: Washington County

Details: A walking tour of the urban edge in Washington County. We'll discuss what is considered in urban growth boundary expansions, what some of the biggest challenges are in the way this process currently works, and how scenario planning provides the opportunity to make more efficient use of our land inside urban areas.

Details: This event will consider ways to create and preserve affordable housing, and explore the relationship between land use planning and housing affordability. The event will include a brief tour of affordable housing projects.

The Agricultural Economy of the Willamette Valley: Tour and Discussion

This tour and presentation on Oregon agriculture will take place in the Willamette Valley. Location is TBD but you can plan on the event being late morning/early afternoon. 1000 Friends' board members will be joining us for the event.

Many of Oregon's state programs, including Oregon's land use program, are rooted with requirements for public involvement, but are Oregon's current public engagement practices still ahead of the curve?

We've chartered a bus and hope to have a great day of conversation, education, and ending with a wine tasting! We'll have the Portland folks meetup in Portland to hop on the bus, then meet folks from around the state in Newberg before we proceed with our tour of the Dundee hills vineyards.
