1000 Friends to raise $40,000 by January 1st to earn $20,000 Challenge Grant

An Update:

Thanks to their generosity, supporters enabled 1000 Friends to earn a $20,000 grant this December. Our gratitude to the people who made this possible is without end. We are so thankful to have a community of friends, supporters, and advocates willing to help us raise $40,000 in a few short weeks. What a way to start our 40th anniversary year! Thank you to everyone who gave to 1000 Friends this year. People made 1000 Friends possibles in 1975, and people like you still power it today. Thank you!

1000 Friends to raise $40,000 by January 1st to earn $20,000 Challenge Grant

Friends and supporters, you may know that 1000 Friends of Oregon began in 1975 with a challenge to find 1000 people to give $100 to make land use a force for Oregon. Today, we are engaged in a $40,000 challenge on the eve of our 40th anniversary. Will you help us earn it?

On December 5th I received an unexpected and extraordinarily generous offer from a local foundation. They offered $20,000 toward our legislative efforts in the 2015 session, provided we can raise a 2-to-1, $40,000 match to their gift by January.

Your support will help us earn their gift and advance our proactive legislative agenda. To be on the team that earns us this challenge, please visit If you have already given, thank you. Your support means the world to us and makes our work possible.

Why the challenge? Because the foundation's board cares deeply about Oregon’s land use program. They want 1000 Friends to be around for many decades to come, protecting and defending Oregon’s land, communities, and people. They want to make sure we can build support; that we are up to the task of sharing what you already know and value about land use in Oregon with the next generations who will call this place home.

Together, we can meet this challenge. And we can have a tremendous start to our 40th anniversary -- one that honors the people-powered way we began this work back in 1975.

Thank you. I wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season, and best wishes for the new year.

With gratitude,

Jason Miner
Executive Director
