Vast Majority of Americans Report Support for Planning

A substantial majority of Americans believe good planning is essential to help their communities through the economic recovery.  And their priorities for their communities' future include access to local businesses, sidewalks, transit, and parks above other features.

This is according to a new survey from the American Planning Association: Planning in America: Perceptions and Priorities.

The study reports that 67% of respondents believe that “community planning is important to economic recovery,” and 66% believe their own community needs more planning. These trends hold steady across political parties and in communities of all sizes. Majorities also believe their community should prioritize planning when determing the allocation of scarce tax resources.
