A benefit for 1000 Friends of Oregon

Saturday March 17, 2018

5:30 - 8:30 pm at the Oregon Zoo in Portland

Join us at the 2018 McCall Gala and celebrate a connected Oregon. What does it mean to live in a connected state? A connected community? It means that you have access to opportunity. It means your shared backyard is unspoiled fields, forests, and waters. It means that you can reach out to the people and places that are the most important to you.

In 2017, 1000 Friends fought for a more connected Oregon. We fought for robust transit in urban and rural communities. We fought for greater access to housing in our neighborhoods. We fought to keep all regions of Oregon bonded to our state's unique values of balanced land use. We fought for programs that provide farmers and ranchers with tools to keep their lands conserved for future generations. 1000 Friends, our partners, and you all have a common goal of connecting Oregonians.

Join us this March to raise funds and awareness for the vital work that 1000 Friends of Oregon does to build connections, coalitions, and transformative conversations with Oregonians about how we will keep our state and its people connected. We hope you'll join us for an inspired evening with friends, innovators, and big thinkers!

2018 Tom McCall Legacy Award

We are proud to announce this year's Tom McCall Legacy Award recipient, Robert Liberty.

Mr. Liberty served 1000 Friends for two decades, spearheading major initiatives like our Cooperating Attorney Program, our McCall Society, and the intensive Land Use Transportation Air Quality (LUTRAQ) study that still informs smart policy today. Following his tenure at 1000 Friends, Mr. Liberty gave of his time and talents serving on the Metro Council, working to promote a healthy regional community. Now he is guiding the next generation of Oregon leaders and great thinkers at Portland State University as the Director of their Institute for Sustainable Solutions. Oregon will be forever a more livable and loveable state because of Robert Liberty. Please join us this year to celebrate Robert and his phenomenal body of work.

The Tom McCall Legacy Award is given in recognition of one's deep devotion to the State of Oregon and outstanding commitment to land use planning. Tom McCall Legacy Award recipients have dedicated a lifetime serving the state of Oregon, protecting our land use program and enhancing it to better the lives of Oregonians everywhere.

"Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky. They are people who say 'this is my community, and it's my responsibility to make it better."
- Governor Tom McCall
