We see you’re interested in Volunteering

There are many ways to volunteer your time for 1000 Friends. Whether it is hosting a house party, volunteering at an event, contacting your own networks to take action, or coming into the office – our volunteers are essential to our work. Please contact the staff person in the regional office nearest you, or Alyson Marchi-Young ( in the Portland office, to find out more.

Community Advocate – Though 1000 Friends has offices in the Portland Metro area, the Willamette Valley, and Southern Oregon, we rely on volunteers around the state to get the word out about important land use and transportation issues.

  • Events volunteer – We’re always looking for folks who can join us at Farmers Markets or events across the state to educate more people about the work we do to protect family farms and natural resources. If you like talking with people and want to help grow the 1000 Friends network – we could certainly use your help!
  • Office volunteer – Whether it is helping with mailings, making phone calls, maintaining our database or joining a committee, we appreciate those who donate their time to the organization.
  • Internships – check the Get Involved page to find out more about internship opportunities. We offer one paid internship during the summer.
