In recent weeks, the cities of Cottage Grove and Amity each adopted urban growth boundary expansion proposals that allow for economic and population growth while minimizing unnecessary development of important resource lands. Both cities worked with 1000 Friends of Oregon to find compromises that resulted in quick approval and support from 1000 Friends and its affiliates.

Newberg UGB Amendment:  Testimony Needed June 6 (Written Testimony due June 2)

When: A hearing is scheduled before the Newberg City Council on Monday June 6, at 7 PM. Please arrive early to sign up to testify.

Where: Newberg Public Safety Building, 401 E Third Street. 

Details: Any written testimony must be submitted to Newberg City Hall, 414 E. First Street by 5 PM, Thursday, June 2.

Molalla City Council Withdraws Urban Reserves Proposal

In a victory for Clackamas County agriculture, the City of Molalla urban reserves proposal is dead. Following a rejection of the proposed 2,290-acre urban reserve by the Clackamas County Commissioners on Wednesday morning, the Molalla City Council voted Wednesday evening to drop the urban reserves proposal entirely. 1000 Friends had strongly opposed the proposal, which would have largely consisted of lands zoned as agriculture.

The Lane County intergovernmental Metropolitan Policy Committee has voted 8-1 to proceed with environmental studies on the West Eugene EmX extension, an important victory for the vital transit project.

Springfield Sees No Need to Expand UGB for Residential Lands

The City of Springfield’s residential land and housing needs analysis, reviewed Monday at a joint hearing of the City Council and the Lane County Commissioners, has concluded that no expansion of the urban growth boundary is necessary to meet the City’s residential needs for the next 20 years.
