A production of the Klamath-Siskiyou WIldlands Center, the Siskiyou Film Festival is in its 11th year! Featuring a wide range of films exploring issues of sustainability and critical issues facing Oregon and the planet, this is an excellent opportunity to connect with other Southern Oregon residents and organizations that care about these issues.

In November 2011, after eight years of work and nearly two more years of public hearings, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved, or "adopted", the Greater Bear Creek Regional Problem Solving Plan (RPS), which will guide growth for six Jackson County cities for the next fifty years.

With the population of Jackson County projected to double in the coming decades, local 1000 Friends affiliate Rogue Advocates is beginning a project called Envision the Rogue Valley. The project, supported by a grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust, builds on the Envision Oregon project undertaken by 1000 Friends of Oregon several years ago.

Bear Creek Valley Regional Plan Moves Forward

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has voted to approve the Regional Problem Solving plan, which will guide growth for the county and its cities for the next 50 years. 1000 Friends is carefully reviewing the proposed plan and will continue to participate as the plan moves on to state review.

New Face of Farming southern Oregon meeting

1000 Friends is launching an initiative called the New Face of Farming.

The initiative is focused on listening to farmers and ranchers throughout the state to identify land use policy issues that could be adapted to help producers remain viable and profitable (http://www.friends.org/NewFaceofFarming). We will be using your feedback to craft our 2012 legislative agenda so your voice truly matters!

Bear Creek Valley Regional Problem Solving Enters New Phase

During the last year and a half the Jackson County Planning Commission has held hearings on the Regional Problem Solving (RPS) plan, which will guide growth in the Bear Creek Valley for the next 50 years. After 27 meetings and over 2,250 pages of written material, the Planning Commission has made a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners.
