Those who would like to learn more about coastal natural history have an extraordinary opportunity this summer. CoastWatch is offering three intensive training workshops, led by ecologist Stewart Schultz, an authority on the Northwest’s coastal region. He will be joined by Fawn Custer, CoastWatch’s volunteer coordinator.

South Coast Land Exchange Raises Concerns

A proposed land exchange between a golf course developer and Oregon State Parks is raising concerns among land use advocates along the Oregon Coast. The proposed swap, which would remove land from Bandon State Natural Area for golf course development, is now open for public comment.

Today's Stop on the Land Use Trail: Coastal Cranberries

A few times a week this summer, we'll be featuring stops on our new Land Use Trail. Today, June 25: Cranberries. Quite possibly one of Oregon's most special farm crops, cranberries are essential to the southern Oregon Coast's economy.

Jake Greenberg could have moved his Portland specialty food distribution company anywhere after it outgrew its longtime facilities. But where other companies might have chosen a tilt-up warehouse in a freeway office park, Greenberg recognized the hidden costs that held for his employees and the environment. Instead, he chose to renovate and relocate to a long-neglected icehouse in a walkable Portland neighborhood.
