Report: Active Transportation Is a Priority for Rural Areas, Too

There is a common misconception that only residents of big cities bike and walk, and therefore active transportation investments are not well-suited to rural areas. A new report from the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy tells a different story.

Historic Preservation League of Oregon: Historic Preservation 101, North Bend/Coos Bay

Historic Preservation 101

The Historic Preservation League of Oregon holds a workshop on Historic Preservation in North Bend. Participants will learn about the basic principles of historic preservation and its practical applications to local resources, hear about how preservation and Main Street revitalization go hand-in-hand, and explore preservation strategies for local places that may be endangered or in need of rehabilitation or adaptive reuse.

Newberg Graphic Editorial: Reject HB 2181, 2182, 2610

In a February 16 editorial, the Newberg Graphic urges the Oregon Legislature to reject three bills that would undermine citizen access to the land use appeals process.

Arguing that the bills--HB 2181, 2182, and 2610--are "unnecessary" and "likely..would lead to an erosion of the strong land use laws this state enjoys," the Graphic expresses concern that the proposals would favor moneyed interests over ordinary citizens.

Land Conservation and Development Commission Meeting

The Land Conservation and Development Commission will meet in Lincoln City on April 21-23 at City Hall. LCDC is the 7-citizen volunteer commission that guides land use policy in Oregon and they rotate their meetings around the state to maximize opportunities for citizen participation.
