You are Oregon's 1000 Friends

Join 1000 Friends of Oregon to support great communities, healthy working lands, and iconic landscapes.

Your support means that we can make 2017 a great year in land use. We will...

  • Close loopholes in rules that allow too many non-farm buildings to be built on farmland, houses to be built in forest resource lands, and crafty lot line adjustments to create new parcels.
  • Advance our new Circuit Rider program which oversees land use for farms, ranches, and forests around the state, including east of the Cascades, where all too often the statewide goals have fallen by the wayside.
  • Defend the land use planning program in government decisions - from destructive special interests that seek to unravel it in the 2017 Legislative session to advancing rational UGB adjustments in Coburg, Medford, and Salem.
  • Continue to advance housing policies that create abundant, diverse, and affordable homes in every Oregon community.

“I give to 1000 Friends of Oregon because they work with me and other citizens in the Hood River  Valley to save farmland for future generations. Without the Oregon Land Use system and 1000 Friends' assistance much of the Hood River Valley would be subdivisions by now.”

- Mike McCarthy, Hood River Valley orchardist

Forty years ago a small group of people had a vision: create a space for the people to have a voice in planning the future of their communities, and protect that space. They set out to find 1000 friends around Oregon who shared their vision of a publicly interested land use program. Today we shepherd that vision, and we do it with far more than 1000 friends.

As a home, Oregon is remarkable. We think our shared land use legacy has a lot to do with it. Today our work aims to connect Oregonians with how they can help protect the farms, forests, and future of home. Today we work to ensure the benefits of our renowned livability are shared with all Oregonians.

You can be part of our passionate team, for Oregon's future.

The McCall Society: Join our single-largest source of support

The best way to support our efforts to make communities affordable and strengthen a booming agriculture industry, the McCall Society supporters give gifts of $1000 per year ($84 per month) or more. McCall Society members are generous and dedicated. Not only do they fund our Emerging Advocates program of future land use leaders, but they also show their support for our work in the legislature by attending hearings and testifying. From family farmers to city planners, our McCall Society members are a truly passionate group. We would be honored to have you as a McCall Society member.

The Oregon Sustainers: Support the team monthly

Our monthly supporters are the soldiers in the battle for Oregon's landscapes. When we needed help defeating a bill that would cripple the land use program in Eastern Oregon or when our Hub and Spoke program popped up to partner with community-based organizations, the monthly donors fought for and with us. Our successes are the result of consistent gifts from this core group of friends. Please consider joining their ranks.

The Members: Our original 1000 friends

1000 Friends of Oregon members are committed to making Oregon a productive, equitable place for everyone to enjoy. Membership begins at $35. These friends are as loyal as they come. In addition to helping defend the goals of the land use program, such as providing affordable housing options for all and fostering public participation, our members rally around our participation in the Rogue Valley Food System Network and our natural hazards bill. Will you be our friend?
